The best New York nights often start with a staircase. Climb the narrow one in the middle of Koreatown, past the neon and the karaoke signs, and you surface in Anytime Kitchen — a dim, humming room where tables of friends orbit bubbling army stew, soju bottles multiply, and the clock politely stops mattering.

The Story

Opened in 2018 as Anytime Soju Bar and Eatery, it grew into the flagship of a small hospitality group without ever needing a critic’s blessing — K-town’s late-night crowd wrote its legend themselves, one packed weekend at a time. The concept is Seoul’s drinking-table culture transplanted intact: anju — food made for accompanying rounds — served with theatrical pots, melted cheese and zero pretension, until hours when the rest of Manhattan is asleep.

What to Order

Budae jjigae is the campfire everyone gathers around — Spam, sausage, mandu, rice cakes and ramyun in a broth that improves with every minute. The “super creamy” tteokbokki has its own fan club; corn cheese vanishes first; popcorn chicken and bulgogi fries keep the rounds honest. The bolder table graduates to yukhoe — wagyu beef tartare — brisket gamjatang or kimchi cream ramyun. Soju arrives plain, flavored or shaken into cocktails, with makgeolli for the traditionalists. Daytime visitors get a quieter cupbop-and-lunch-set version of the kitchen.

The Space

Low light, modern lines and a conversational hum rare for Koreatown’s decibel levels — intimate enough for a date, elastic enough for eight friends celebrating nothing in particular. The tiny entry corridor doubling as a waiting room on weekend nights is part of the folklore.
