Some evenings don’t want an event; they want a corner table, a candle, a steak and someone worth facing across it. Petite Boucherie exists precisely for those evenings — a tiny French bistro folded into one of the West Village’s storybook corners, where the windows open onto brownstone light and the pace slows to Parisian.

The Story

This is the smallest, most personal member of The Group NYC — Emil Stefkov’s Belle Époque-minded family that also runs the grand La Grande Boucherie in Midtown. Settled on its Village corner since the late 2010s, it was conceived as the neighborhood’s living room: same French classics and wine cellar pedigree as its big siblings, scaled down to a room where the bartender learns your order by the second visit.

What to Order

Begin with escargots or the onion soup gratinée while deciding between the house steak au poivre — flat iron, green peppercorns, clouds of pommes purée — and the boeuf bourguignon that tastes like a French grandmother’s Sunday. The Boucherie burger with aged Gruyère is the low-key flex; charcuterie and cheese plates stretch a bottle of wine into an evening. Brunch means Benedicts, French toast and steak aux oeufs; the absinthe cocktails and the Green Hour aperitif ritual carry the group’s signature.

The Space

Red leather, exposed brick, ornate mirrors and a small wooden bar under amber light — bistro romance without a single wasted square foot. When the French windows open, the room and the street trade atmospheres; window seats offer the Village’s gentlest people-watching, all dog-walkers and slow strollers rather than crowds.
